A reappraisal of the fungus genus Phalangispora with the rediscovery of P. bharathensis on leaf litter of Mangifera indica from the northern Western Ghats, India
    Type
    Journal Article
    Description
A new strain of Phalangispora bharathensis was collected and identified on Mangifera indica (Anacardiaceae) from Tamhini Ghats in the Western Ghats of India. The arrangement of dark brown, septate sporodochial setae surrounding the sporodochia is a unique character in this strain that differentiates it from all the species so far recorded in this genus. However, the conidial measurements and conidial chain dimensions are almost comparable to that of P. bharathensis earlier identified from natural forests of Goa, India. This is the first record of this genus on Mangifera.

Cephalic chaetotaxy of the last instar larva of a pyralid: Syllepte derogate (Fabricius) (Lepidoptera)
    Type
    Journal Article
    Description
The study is focused on the chaetotaxy of the head of a cotton leaf roller i.e., Syllepte derogata (Fabricius) of family Pyralidae. Arrangement of various groups of setae, number of setae and punctures, and length of setae present on head of the last instar larva are described along with frontal and lateral chaetotaxic maps of head. Anioke & Boakye (1992) studied chaetotaxy of immature stages of this pest species and in this study identification is highlighted with illustration on mircosetae, setal arrangements, position on the cranium and length of each group in comparison with other groups besides cephalic chaetotaxy.
