Getting Started

This map-based portal allows users to navigate and zoom into an area of interest, visualize layers that are available on the site, locate, and mark areas and upload annotations, pictures and comments to a feature in the layer. All data on the portal can be viewed and visualized freely by all. However, contributing data, adding and annotating features, and adding comments are controlled by a system of roles and associated privileges. Screen Layout

  1. Site Information: Use the menu to access information about the site.
  2. Login and Register: Login and register on the site to add information and comments on the portal.
  3. Base Map: Choose from the drop-down list of base maps available. The base map provides the backdrop for geographical visualization of maps available on the portal.
  4. Navigator bar icons:
    1. Layer Manager: Click here to bring the pop-up where you can reorder the maps. Only the features of the top-most map are clickable.
    2. Reset Tree; Click this icon to remove all the maps that are displayed. Note that the map view will not be changed when you reset the maps.
  5. Layer Tree Panel: Maps are organized by either the theme or their geography.
    1. Theme: Here the maps are organized by themes. Click on a theme to expand and see the layers in each theme. Click on the check box to display the map. Click on the zoom to extent icon to zoom into the map extent.
    2. Geography: Here the maps are organized by the geographical location. Click on a theme to expand and see the layers in each theme. Click on the check box to display the map. Click on the zoom to extent icon to zoom into the map extent.
  6. Open source components and open source branding for the site.
  7. Main map visualization frame.
  8. Navigation control: Use this to zoom, pan and to view full extent.
  9. Map tool bar: Pick a pan or zoom tool bar for navigating the map. Add feature icon: The add feature icon will appear if you are participatory layer and you have permissions to add a feature.
  10. Welcome tab: Look here for new posts and announcements.
  11. Legend tab: Click here to view the legend of the to-most map. Note that currently, only polygon layers have a legend
  12. Bird's Eye View: This provides a bird's eye view of the map. You can minimize it to see more of the map.
  13. Latitude / Longitude ticker: This ticker shows the current lat/long position of the cursor.
  14. Data on demand: Click here to show the data for all features displayed on the map. You can click on a row to locate the feature on the map.
