The India Biodiversity Portal

Welcome to the India Biodiversity Portal (IBP) - A repository of information designed to harness and disseminate collective intelligence on the biodiversity of the Indian subcontinent.

Endorsed by the National Knowledge commission of India, we intend to provide a participatory platform and create a healthy medium for sharing and assessing biodiversity information. We started this initiative with a unique collection of spatial information in the form of map layers. We are now working towards making these maps more interactive, including non-spatial data components like species checklists, and developing features that enable smooth community participation.

We look forward to your involvement and support in this project. Together, we can help develop the India Biodiversity Portal into a site rich in information on the biodiversity of the Indian subcontinent and provides free and open access to it.

Maps

maps

The 'Map' section on India Biodiversity Portal has a collection of more than hundred web-based interactive map layers with spatial information on Indian biodiversity.

All layers are arranged either according to themes, like demography and conservation, or by geography, like those on Pench in MP or B.R Hills in Karnataka. Currently, there are also seven participative layers that you can contribute to. Each layer comes with its own metadata and terms of use that you can access by viewing the Layer Info.

In addition, the map platform offers a variety of user-friendly and interactive tools that you can use for functions like, choosing and overlaying multiple layers, zooming in and out, panning around the map, ordering and downloading layers, measuring distances and areas on the map, generating a URL for an indiabiodiversity map layer that you like, and embedding it on your own web page!

Checklists

Checklists

The 'Checklist' section on India Biodiversity Portal has a compilation of checklists of species belonging to a wide range of taxa and covering varied geographies of the Indian sub-continent.

All checklists have been sourced from a wide range of open access sites. You can search our site for a particular checklist by taxa, species name or location. Each checklist comes with it's own metadata, and terms of use, specified by the author and/or source. You can also download a copy of a checklist that interests you in more than one format.

This section of India Biodiversity Portal is intended to be helpful to researchers, conservationists, students, naturalists and wildlife enthusiasts, among others.
