This map spatially describes the point locations of 25 wetlands that have been declared as Ramsarsites in India.
Description
The Convention on Wetlands, signed in Ramsar, Iran, in 1971, is an inter-governmental treaty which provides the framework for national action and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources.
Method
The point locations were downloaded from Ramsar sites website (http://www.ramsar.org/). The locations were converted to GIS database and related information was added to the layer. This includes name of Ramsar site, date of declaration, status, and area in hectares.
