Bird Sightings in India

Summary

This map shows different locations across India with the details of the birds sighted in these locations by different observers from India and abroad.

Description

The data contains the bird sighting details of over 2500 locations in India by different observers with a total of more than 59000 sightings. It is a participatory platform where observers will be able to put in their own bird sighting details into the database.

Methodology of data generation

Presently, the data uploaded has been compiled from 5 different sources viz, MigrantWatch (NCBS), L. Shyamal (Birdspot 3.6), B. Sreekumar (Ed.) from Department of Forests and Wildlife, Government of Kerala and Kottayam Nature Society (Vembanad Water Bird Count 2006, 07, 08), Arpit Deomurari (FES) & NCF, Mysore. The location details were put up while the sighting details corresponding to the locations were linked to it. Each species of birds were given a unique id which helps in providing information related to the scientific names, taxonomy and conservation status of the particular species.
