Polygonum pulchrum Blume (Polygonum tomentosum Willd. ; Persicaria pulchra (Blume) Sasaki) which is treated as a synonym of (R. Br.) Soják is a distinct species (Cook 1996). Therefore Polygonum pulchrum (= Persicaria pulchra) is the valid name.

Habitat and Ecology: The floating emergent vegetation P. attenuata also forms extensive beds in some reaches. This species is present along the river banks, but is not inundated at the end of the dry season, water levels having receded from the plants.
